What makes dental implant special is that after the surgery the screws are hidden by the gum and some stitches. Yet, this stable artificial tooth root will support the aesthetic and natural-looking dental crown. The placement of the crown is the most prominent part of the dental implant procedure.

As it was mentioned before, implant surgery is followed by 3-4 months of healing. By the end of this period the implant screw, thanks to its special surface treatment, is partially woven by the bone tissues under the gum and kept strongly in place by them.

There is one more part that comes in the middle between the screw and the crown: the abutment. This small piece of titanium or zirconium is screwed into the implant. The abutment is there to hold the aesthetic crown or bridge.

Metal-ceramic crowns, zirconium crowns and other options

When it comes to crowns and bridges placed on the top of the abutment, there are several options available to you:

Metal-ceramic crown fitted by glue:

  • Best value option but less aesthetic than a zirconium.
  • Built on solid metal frame.
  • It is not translucent.
  • Durable and it can function well for decades.
  • Applied rather for molar than front teeth due to the greyish dull shade it gives to the crown.
  • Glued on permanently thus removal of the crown causes damage

Metal-ceramic crown fitted by screw:

  • Best value option but less aesthetic than a zirconium crown. It is more expensive than the glued version due to the screwing technique.
  • Built on solid metal frame.
  • It is not translucent.
  • Durable and it can function well for decades.
  • Applied rather for molar than front teeth due to the greyish dull shade it gives to the crown.
  • Screwed onto the implant thus it is easy to remove in case of damage or in need of replacement.

Zirconium crown fitted by glue:

  • Metal-free so it causes no allergy.
  • Translucent similarly to the natural tooth.
  • Durable and it can function well for decades.
  • Designed and fabricated by state-of-the-art computer-aided technology.
  • Primarily applied for front teeth but can serve well even for molar replacement as well.
  • Glued on permanently thus removal of the crown causes damage.
  • More expensive than the metal-ceramic crown due to its special fabrication technology and aesthetics.

  • Metal-free so it causes no allergy.
  • Translucent similarly to the natural tooth.
  • Durable and it can function well for decades.
  • Designed and fabricated by state-of-the-art computer-aided technology.
  • Primarily applied for front teeth but can serve well even for molar replacement as well.
  • Screwed onto the implant thus it is easy to remove in case of damage or in need of replacement.
  • More expensive than the glued zirconium crown.
